International Travel & Medical Plan

International Travel & Medical Plan

If a medical problem occurs while you are abroad, you will feel more comfortable knowing that someone is there for you. This Plan offers 24 hour accident protection while traveling abroad. It is available only to LRFA members and their dependent children, but becoming a member is easy!*.

Eligibility & Enrollment
LRFA members and their dependant children (under the age of 18), who are in good health, can be covered for a maximum period of eight(8) months, per year. When applying, please include both departure and return dates in your total day count.

To enroll, current LRFA members must complete the International Travel Application form  PDF and return it with payment, at least 30 days prior to departure from the U.S. Dependent children may be covered under a parent's plan for an additional cost.

*Anyone who is not currently an LRFA member must also send in a completed LRFA membership application form F-48(a) PDF along with the appropriate fees.

Effective Date & Termination
Individual coverage will become effective upon the latest of the following: (1) the date of departure from the United States, or (2) the date requested in the application.

Individual coverage will terminate upon the earliest of the following: (1) the moment the covered person arrives back in the United States, (2) the expiration of eight months from the effective date of the coverage, or (3) the date the agreement terminates.

Not Covered
You are not eligible for benefits if you are hospitalized due to a mental illness, AIDS, war injuries, or injuries resulting from participation in demonstrations or police actions. Benefits do not apply if you are receiving medical care in nursing homes, convalescent residences, mental institutions, extended care facilities, state hospitals, VA hospitals, or drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinics.

Requests for Benefits
Benefits may be requested from the LRFA office, no later than six (6) months after treatment or examination. The participant must complete and sign a benefit request form, and submit it along with all hospital and physician bills (or legible copies). Bills must clearly show dates of treatment, types of treatment/operation, diagnosis and cost.

These pages are designed to provide general descriptions of our benefit plans and further restrictions may apply or may have changed. For further information, please contact the LRFA office or refer to specific plan Regulations.
